YAOUNDÉ, July 15, 2026 – Can we still speak of prayer to priests without falling into absurdity? This was the audacious challenge taken up by Sister Marie Josèphe Nga at the opening of the 4th Provincial Assembly of the Congregation of the Sons of the Immaculate Conception (CFIC). Addressing an audience of religious, the speaker did not hesitate to point the finger at a contemporary ill: spiritual laxity.

The day began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration. It was presided over by Father Toussaint, the personal representative of the Superior General. In a moving homily, he invited the congregation to seek true rest in Jesus. This rest, he reminded them, is rooted exclusively in constant prayer.

The observation of an identity crisis

Following the official addresses by the Provincial Superior and Father Alain Mobbio, Superior of the Bonifacio Pavletic Delegation, Sister Marie Josèphe Nga spoke. Her assessment was clear-sighted and uncompromising. She denounced the "soft life" of some members of the clergy. She condemned the temptation of worldly honors, the flight to social media, and the gradual abandonment of community prayer. For her, a religious who cuts themselves off from the inner life withers, like a branch severed from a tree.

Prayer as a spiritual weapon

To counter this apathy, the nun calls for a vital resurgence. She structures her approach around three fundamental pillars:

  • An awareness of the profound identity of the consecrated person.
  • A return to prayer as the sole spiritual foundation.
  • The soteriological dimension of prayer, an indispensable path towards salvation.

This morning of intense reflection concluded with a fraternal meal. It leaves the participants facing a true spiritual battle to revitalize their communities.

A fitting adage : A religious person who no longer prays is like a lighthouse that goes out, leaving souls to drift in the night.
