The blood of a martyr becomes the cement of unwavering faith. This Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 4:00 PM, the emotion was palpable in the Bangui Cathedral. A solemn mass honored the memory of L' Abbé Crépin, celebrated exactly one month after his martyrdom which occurred on June 29, 2026 .

A united episcopate in mourning

Cardinal Dieudonné Nzapalainga presided over this historic celebration. Two major figures of the Church were beside him: Monsignor Joseph Samedi, Coadjutor Archbishop of Bangui, and Monsignor Aurelio Gazzera.

Bishop Gazzera delivered a powerful homily. Without mincing words, he recounted the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of the priest from the Diocese of Bangassou. His address captivated a congregation deeply moved by this first month of absence.

Hope in the face of tragedy

The prelate drew upon the Gospel of the Beatitudes to deliver a message of resilience. He urged the people to reject despair and to preserve the joy of living in Christ. His promise was clear: sacrifice on Earth opens the doors to eternal life.

A mausoleum for history

The event mobilized people far beyond Bangassou. Priests from several dioceses and the family of the deceased stood together. In a show of solidarity, the crowd launched a joint initiative: to erect a mausoleum. This monument will immortalize the blood shed by Father Crépin.

A fitting adage : violence breaks bodies but faith builds sanctuaries of memory.
