Bishop Richard Kazadi ordained sixteen sacred ministers, consecrated the altar of the cathedral and travelled hundreds of kilometers.
KOLWEZI – The Diocese of Kolwezi resonated throughout July 2026 with historic events under the leadership of its bishop, His Excellency Bishop Richard Kazadi Kamba. This major pastoral undertaking combined significant liturgical celebrations in the capital with an apostolic outreach tour to the most isolated communities in the region.
The Cathedral of St. Mary Queen of Peace served as the setting for solemn and rarely held rites, marked by the consecration of the altar and the blessing of the tabernacle. Prior to this, seven future deacons solemnly professed their faith before receiving ordination the following day, alongside nine new priests. This integration of sixteen new apostolic workers into the diocesan clergy concluded with the traditional Day of Priestly Fraternity, uniting the presbyterate around its Pastor.
Venturing beyond the city limits, Bishop Richard Kazadi braved impassable roads this July to undertake a journey of over 400 kilometers in the Sandoa deanery. From Kasaji to Kafankumba, the bishop visited isolated communities such as Muyumba, where he celebrated the very first episcopal Mass in the village's history. The trip was punctuated by confirmations, wedding celebrations, and social visits, including visits to prisoners and a local health center in Sakundundu.
The true highlight of this apostolic journey took place on Sunday, July 19. Before a huge crowd from Dilolo, Kasaji, and Kolwezi, the bishop canonically erected the parish of Saint Gaston, 61 years after its initial creation as a simple community. During this same historic celebration, Bishop Richard Kazadi officially installed the very first priest to serve as administrator of this new parish entity.
A fitting adage : distance does not stop the shepherd when faith calls to gather the flock.
