Raymund Kolbe, later Saint Maximilian Kolbe, was born on January 8, 1894 in Zduńska Wola (Poland). Priest and founder of the Militia of the Immaculate, and of the Catholic newspaper The Knight of the Immaculate, he died a martyr in place of a condemned man on August 14, 1941 in the hunger bunker by phenol injection.
