Kinshasa: Saint Agnes Parish vandalized during a night of terror

The wave of crime targeting religious buildings has once again struck the Archdiocese of Kinshasa . On the night of June 5-6, 2026, the Saint Agnes parish in N'djili was the target of a violent attack perpetrated by armed criminals.

A heavy toll and sacrilegious desecrations

The perpetrators' attack has left the parish community in shock. The material and human toll is particularly heavy:

• Two young guards were injured during the assault.
• Several premises were completely ransacked and emptied of their valuables.
• The sacristy and altar were vandalized , constituting a direct act of desecration.

In response to this tragedy, Bishop Edouard Tshimba , Auxiliary Bishop of Kinshasa, immediately went to the scene. The prelate offered his moral support to the grieving parishioners and performed a blessing of purification for the church.

An alarming resurgence of attacks

This incident is unfortunately not an isolated case and is part of a dark series of events for the Church in Kinshasa. Recently, the Saint-Théophile parish in Kimbanseke suffered a similar attack, during which a priest was wounded. This tragedy prompted Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo to personally visit him in the hospital. Faced with the increasing number of these attacks against places of worship, ecclesiastical authorities are sounding the alarm. They are urgently calling on priests and all the faithful to be extremely vigilant.

A fitting adage : When the shadow of violence profanes the sanctuary, the light of faith must redouble its vigilance .
