Après la signature d'un accord entre le SCEAM et l'Union africaine, le Cardinal Ambongo a été reçu par le président burundais Évariste Ndayishimiye. Leurs échanges ont porté sur le renforcement de la coopération entre l'Église et l'organisation continentale pour promouvoir la paix, la gouvernance et le développement en Afrique.
