The annual meeting of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Laity (CALCC) concluded on January 17, 2026, at the Annunciata Center of Our Lady of Peace Cathedral in Ibanda. For two days, parish presidents, members of the MAC-GRAS movement, and diocesan leaders participated in three main sessions: synodality with Father Jean-Claude Ciza; the fundamentals of the faith illuminated by the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed with Father Justin Sekatera; and a presentation by Mr. Abel Bonané on the project to create a cooperative (COOPEC) for the CALCC . In his closing remarks, Father Ciza encouraged the laity to remain missionary and to share the teachings they had received.
The diocesan president, Mr. Pierre Safari, encouraged active participation in the COOPEC project. Participants praised the quality of the meeting and left with the new CALCC statutes to implement in their parishes.
