A wind of spiritual renewal is blowing through Haut-Katanga. This Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Lubumbashi resonated with the rhythm of a historic event. Thousands of faithful, civil dignitaries, and numerous members of the clergy gathered there for the episcopal ordination of Bishop Jean-Marie Vianney Musul Musas. Appointed auxiliary bishop by Pope Leo XIV, the former chancellor of the archdiocese thus reached a major milestone in his ecclesiastical life.
The solemn liturgy was presided over by Archbishop Fulgence Muteba Mugalu of Lubumbashi. The traditional rites followed one another with emotion, from the profession of faith to the laying on of hands, under the gaze of the representative of the Holy See and several bishops from across the Democratic Republic of Congo. In his homily, Archbishop Muteba outlined the path for the newly ordained bishop, exhorting him to a ministry of service, closeness, and deep communion with the people of God. This call was received with gravity and devotion by Bishop Musul Musas, who is ready to assume his new pastoral responsibilities.
A fitting adage : He who rises to guide others must first learn to humble himself to serve them.
