On the solemnity of the Epiphany, let us advance today with the gold of our submission to the King whose reign has no end, with the incense of our piety for he is truly God born of the true God, with the myrrh of our solidarity for he is truly Man compassionate to our humanity.

Today, through his newborn fragility, Jesus reveals to us that true power comes from humility; through her listening, Mary teaches us that the family is strengthened through harmony and unity; through his obedience, Joseph teaches us that the family is safe from all danger through listening to and sharing the Word of God. Through his incarnation, may Christ save the families of the earth.

Waiting is a path that demands patience and perseverance. When we know the value of the person or thing awaited, our hearts rejoice constantly with the desire to see the promises fulfilled. This is the very reason for our wonder in waiting on this third Sunday of Advent.

Savor this wonder: "What was foretold by Isaiah (Isaiah 40:3) eight centuries before was fulfilled through the voice of John the Baptist. His ease was of no importance, for he was concerned with the inner peace of each soul. The gravity of his message shook his listeners to the point where the necessity of conversion became imperative. It is to us that this message of the Second Sunday of Advent is proclaimed today: "No ignorance should cloud our vision before the coming of the One who baptizes us in the Spirit and by fire; He is the Supreme Judge of history. Happy Sunday."

We await the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ while supporting our lost brothers and sisters. Let us work hand in hand so that none of us misses redemption. May this first Sunday of Advent, with the first candle lit, fill us with the hope of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
