Saint Leonard of Port Maurice was born on December 20, 1676, in Porto Maurizio, Liguria, Italy. He entered the Order of Friars Minor Conventual (Franciscans) at a very young age. Ordained a priest in 1699, he immediately distinguished himself by his pastoral zeal and preaching. He popularized devotion to the Rosary, contributing to the construction of numerous chapels and shrines in its honor.
